Old Master Copies
Ever wanted more than just a print of your favourite painting? Dan can paint you a copy in the style and manner of the original, and same size if practical.
Commissioning a Portrait
I can paint from life or from photographs or a combination of both.
The painting of your portrait will begin with an initial meeting during which ideas about pose and background colouring will be discussed. The actual size of the painting would also be discussed at this time, as this will effect the final composition. There will then follow a photography session, which usually takes place at the same time, where the subject or subjects, will be photographed in various ways, the principal aim being to obtain a “natural” look and not a stiff formal pose.
Danny will then prepare some preliminary ideas, addressing poses, composition, and overall colouring. I will then forward to you several images either by email or post for a decision on the final pose and image to be used. Following this Danny will start your portrait back in his studio and depending on the numbers of people depicted and size of canvas, your painting will be ready for collection or delivery in 4 – 8 weeks. There will not normally be any need for further meetings once a final decision has been made, but do not hesitate to contact the artist if you have any queries.
The pricing of your portrait will depend on a number of factors, the size of the painting initially, and then the number of figures to be depicted, and type of pose – whether head and shoulders, 3/4 length or full figure. A 50% deposit will be required at the initial meeting, following the photography session. Depending on your location there may be a charge for travelling expenses, within reason, but this will be discussed on initial contact.
Although personal contact with the sitter and taking his own images where required, is Danny’s preferred method of working, he will consider undertaking portraits from your own photographs, for example with portraits of deceased relatives. Please feel free to discuss your requirements with him.
Your decision to have a portrait painted is an important one, and your finished painting will be a unique work of art for you and your family to treasure.
